This tragic story of Nicholas II traces the last fifteen years of the last Czar of Russia. The setting is during the time of the Russian Revolution when the country transitioned from Czarism to Communism. The film takes you inside the private lives of Nicholas, his wife Alexandra, their daughters and the painful secret which bound the Imperial Couple to the mystical Rasputin, and the eventual execution of the entire family.

This film has the same production designer and cinematographer who did another classic tale of Russian history – Dr. Zhivago.
