An Afro-American playwright buys a summer house on an exclusive island. When he tries to move in, he is mistaken for a burglar by a neighbor and arrested for allegedly robbing what the police won’t believe is his own home. In jail, he meets a petty criminal who is convinced by the crooked chief of police to take the fall for a crime he didn’t commit in order to divert a potentially exposive racial situation.
