In the autumn of 1939, Austrian
mountaineer Heinrich Harrer attempts to climb one of the highest peaks in the
Himalayas. He and fellow mountaineer Peter Aufschnaiter are captured by allied
forces at the outbreak of World War II and imprisoned in a British camp. They
manage to escape and find refuge in the sacred land of Tibet, as they set out
on foot across the Himalayas to a land forbidden to foreigners in this epic
adventure based on a true story.
