An asteroid the size of Texas is headed toward earth at a breakneck speed. With only 18 days to spare, NASA director Dan Truman (Billy Bob Thornton) works with Harry S. Stamper (Bruce Willis), the world's foremost deep core oil driller, to turn a roughneck team of drillers into astronauts. Their mission: land on the asteroid, drill into the surface, drop a nuclear device into its core, and blow it into oblivion.
